Pros and Cons at Co-Working Office Spaces

As the number of businesses grows steadily, the amount of real estate available for office space is shrinking considerably. We’re in 2017, and our cities are saturated to the limit.

The construction of buildings for both commercial as well as residential purposes has seen a huge growth spurt over the recent past. The cities have seen innumerable people migrate to them, in hopes of building a brighter future.

As a business owner in the Philippines, it can become hectic to find an office. A place where you can set up operations and commence work without hindrances. A place where clients can come and meet you. An address that gives your firm an identity. With the requirements for a suitable office space being several, and the options of office spaces few, it makes sense to go with a co-working model.

Serviced offices that you can simply plug into and begin working, have become the rage. Due to the sky-high price of real estate, and the extra cost of setting things up once you’ve purchased/rented your space, is deterring people from investing. Co-working spaces in BGC, Ortigas, Makati and other metro cites, allow you to carry out your operations in a modern office environment. Equipped with the latest technology, they make working as hassle free and enjoyable as it’s supposed to be. Co-working spaces require certain simple rules to be followed.

Clean up after yourself. If you’re bringing certain items with you to the space, make sure you take them all back. Being considerate of the others using the co-working space requires that you maintain a friendly environment. Do this to be conscientious of other workers. Organised things back into place, and wipe surfaces clean.

Maintain phone etiquette. Nothing’s worse than sharing office space with someone whose perpetually screaming into the phone. If you need to raise your voice at all, go outside and do it. Taking in a normal voice prevents conflicts. Other people also have clients who they need to hear over the phone.

Bring your own stationery/office supplies. There’s nothing worse than sharing a co-working space with someone who is perpetually borrowing pencils, pens, staplers, etc. If you do have to borrow something, return or replace it immediately.

Do not overdo the scents. This is mostly overlooked. Some people have extremely sensitive noses. They can be allergic to certain scents and perfumes. Choose perfumes and air fresheners that are subtle and not overpowering.

Network with the people you are sharing the space with. Take advantage of the co-working situation and use it to build ties with others. This word of mouth advertising method is time-tested.

Do not be messy with regards to food. Refrain from bringing foods to the co-working space, that have a strong or pungent odor. If you have to eat in the office. choose mild foods and avoid strong odors. Clean up after yourself. Set a good example to the others.

Replace things when you finish them. For example, if you notice that the paper tray for the printer is missing, feed some A4 sheets into it.

Do not step our of your space and into someone else’s. Usually, if you rent co-working office space, you have permission for certain areas. Do not use any unauthorized extra space, not allocated to you.

With the increase in the number of enterprises, office real estate space becomes a problem. Good to hear that, it isn’t difficult to find quality co-working space in the Philippines.
